Haven;t been blogging for a long while. my best excuse would be school and sloth. BUT then.....i owe today a special place on my blog. it's one of the things i want to jot down and remember, and be reminded of.

today/sunday, was the First ever Singapore Salsa Open, organised by Union Square and a few other organisations. it's from 7 to 3am but i reached there at 8pm, thinking i was missing something.... rushed there.... only rushed by walking, couldn't do much about the bus... but the bus wasmoving quite fast, it was a good sign, it just bodes well. and all the time i had this nagging feeling that i should not be so happy, cause being happy means that i expect the rest of the night to be happy, and expecting can disappoint a person, terribly.

yes, so i got there "early" the competition starts only at 10.30. and i met Eugene, and then Qingru....YAY! i was so happy that i didn't come to the party alone. now i have friends, and then Bernard appeared... made me very happy too, coz he's the only guy that can make me do double spins, triple spins and even quadraple spins. yes, and that is without feeling dizzy and falling sideways and all. so we went to the hawker centre to eat... at the esplanade. i had my happy BBQ chicken wings with lots of lime juice sprinkled on top. after that was SAlsa, salsa, salsa. at first, i did a bit of observing, check how good the other girls are... pick up some moves... see which guys were very good and those who were good, (good means, i can dance with them without feeling too pressured) then i danced with eugene. eugene is okay lah... he's on his way to master his basics, but can't do much variation yet. while dancing with eugene, i caught sight of this guy who passed me a sympathetic glance, one saying, i know you are better than this, it's just the guy. but too bad, he brought his girlfriend, i was contemplating whether to ask him to dance with me after this. asking guys to dance with me is a very rare thing that i don't usually do.... so the guys whom i ask to dance with me better oblige... for their own good....

the dance floor was quite big but it soon became very crowded, everybody coming from all the clubs and salsa hunts to DXO, everybody trying to fight to impress the others.

i enjoyed dancing with bernard, and the good thing is he can control the amount of space that we are dancing in. like if there are many people around, he can pull me nearer, and make me do smaller steps....the Other good things is, i never need to ask him to dance with me. haha =) so he enjoyes dancing with me too =)

and it was because i was dancing with such a good partner that this really charming guy noticed me, we were dancing sort of next to each other. and i guess he spotted me spinning quite a bit. and he's so cool, at first he wore a shirt, then when the night got later and he was sweaty, he took it off! and change into a sleeveless t-shirt, which made his muscles all the more atttractive. did i mention that he danced really well? whenever i'm not dancing, i'll look out for him, examine his moves and also the girl he's dancing with.... learn, so that, if he ever was goig to ask me to dance with him, i won't do too badly from the rest of the girls he has chosen to dance with. and i think, i've seen him in NUS before. Hope, hope.... that i can see him again.

basically that guy was the highlight of the whole night, but dancing with bernard contributed alot too. he bought me cosmopolitian, really good recommendation. and sent me "home". let me give you a lowdown on this fantastic guy.
1) HE'S A PROFFESSOR, PART-TIME, AT NUS.
2)he dances well, did all sorts of ballroom and latin dances before.
3) when he was doing his phd at cornell, he did bar-tending, and directing of dramas, that's so cool. keeping in mind he's doing some physics computer based research at biopolis.
4) he was our grand grand grand senior of USP, it was called talent development programme.
5) he's part of BINGO and he won a award from NUS for being one of the early successful entrepreneurs. i forgot what is it exactly.
6) he owns a Ipod Nano....!!!!!
(that last point is actually for aiwen to see)

yup yup, not to mention the fact that yanqing and jianliang won the salsa open competition. agnes must be so proud of jianliang. and they are all celebrating at Xenbar now... i should have joined them, i just realised i have NO classes tomorrow!!!

THIS IS JUST TO SHARE MY JOY TO EVERYONE WHO DIGS DANCE, OR JUST TALENTED GUYS.

This is a mental note to Grace:

your forte has always been chemistry, work harder for it, you're getting there.... anyway you still have to work hard for the bio stuff like pharmaco and patho because you'll need to use these knowledge in future. Remember, exams are coming, you can screw your India paper if you have no time.

my laptop broke down, I made my mom pay for a new one. She said its my 3rd one, including this PDA. When she asked whether the PDA is a necessity, I felt like I had done her a great disservice. Like I squandered 900 bucks....

In an attempt to justify the money I spent on the black eyed peas concert, I must blog about them to further make a memory of it.

To start off, you see the roads to the indoor stadium slowly lighting up by the headlights of taxis. Then you see a sea of people holding cups of Tiger beer, Heineken and Jack Daniels queueing up to move into the stadium. After that you enter this cycle of drinking, queueing for toilets and peeing, while waiting for the concert to start.

There was also a beat-box competition, which this 15-year-old boy won due to his wittiness and successful incorporation of monkey noises into his routine. It was, after all, a monkey business world tour concert.

the long wait for the concert to start paid off when Fergie finally appeared, with the rest of the band, and showed us her butt shaking skills. It was, undoubtedly, better than what I can remember from Beyonce. They started with Hey Mama, and after that the crowd basically went crazy screaming and dancing. The Peas really made the concert interactive and proved their stuff. Me thinkst Fergie can sing in the stadium, without a microphone. Her voice is SO powerful!!

It was the second concert i've attended in my life and I feel one black eyed peas concert is enough for a decade of living, not a lifetime. I can do with some destiny's child...
Things on my mind:

i scored low in pharmacology test, shouldn't have read the textbook....

no money

haven't visited buddhist temple

haven't written paper on buddhism

haven't started on dosage form project report

stupid India term paper needs a topic

jeremy is leaving me again, to boston this time

Patience:
I've always received hints that i'm a rather impatient person. Like when i'm in a rush, I say "excuse me" in a very callous way, as if i've said it a few times and my plea hasn't been heard. But from my point of view, i'm in a rush! For goodness sake, I would really appreciate if I can save whatever time I have, the last thing I need would be you blocking my path on a crowded road because you are chatting on the phone. Then if I whisper "excuse me" I dun think you'll hear. So to save all my whispering effort, I just say it, in a more audible volume. Then I come across as rude..... But hey, who was the one who bothered to say excuse me instead of pushing my way through? Who was the one strolling on a busy road?

Yesterday, my mom had a function to attend, so I had to take care of dinner. So I took the chance to prepare a western meal for my siblings. I had only 45mins to drive to the shopping centre, park, buy, pay, drive back...so naturally I wanted everything to be done as fast as possible right?

As I was going at fast speed down the rows, a group of kids were playing catching at the intersection. I told them to excuse me, then their mom came over in a strict tone saying, you must be patient with them, they are children. Then I thought, i'm one too! And more importantly, i'm in a rush so I was short of telling the woman to bring her children to play catching at the PLAYGROUND!!!

Subsequently, many things happened according to murphy's law. Things like, the supermarket ran out of lettuce, the driver in the car in front of me was talking on the phone, thus his car was stridling 2 lanes, including the right most lane.. Then we were taken over by a Kancil, the smallest Proton car, which implicitly means its very slow. Then the driver suddenly opened his door, while driving, to tighten his door. At the junction, we had to wait for an old lady to drive cross before we could go (gap between her and next car not enough for 2 cars to cross simultaneously). Of course all this happened while the clovk was ticking away.

While studying for Pharmacology last week, i thought:

Exams were meant to indicate how much students have learnt. People usually translate this to the ability of the student to understand/memorise concepts. However, it is also a parameter for a teacher's ability to impart knowledge. In university, the administration thinks that exams measure a student's interest and, more relevantly, their ability to take notes in class. Of course, one can argue that what the lecturer fail to impart, the student can make up by diligent reading. but basically i think all uni students can do with one month of intensive dictation training before coming to uni. i need it.

empirical results show that my hypothesis is correct.
my hypothesis is: results are dependent on the students ability to take notes in class.
the results: CAP scores of my pharmacy class vary by cliches. assuming that a certain cliche all share the same notes they have taken down in class and notes are not transferred between cliches, then, my hypothesis is true.

I think it's safe to say that everytime i blog here, it's regarding something i'm not happy about... so this blog is a sad blog. and i'm getting jealous of jeremy's blog. he has a hundred times more readership than me..and well, i dun blog a lot, i'm too busy.

STIFF by mary roach

"Death, as in dying, is sad and profound.....[the cadavers] seemed sweet and well-intentioned, sometimes sad, occasionally amusing. Some were beautiful, some monsters. Some were sweatpants, some were naked, some in pieces, others whole."

so.... most of the time they are in pieces?

YEAH! yay! YEH!

I watched the our rag performance videos today, at Xenbar... was very nice, we had many versions, like one at central forum, one at forum, with backdrop, one on field dry-run, one on the actual performance itself. i watched it 4 times, i mean the performance lah... from different angles too. and i still find new things about the video... coz many parts we broke in to small groups and acted, so interesting!! and the video assured my suspicions that i look chubby... coz from far away... i look good, and very STRIKING!!

am going to continue salsa. they say must attend 100 basic salsa classes and lots of intermediates and performance classes before we can go out for performances.... isn't so EXCITING??? and i'm doing some super saver deal now, 8 hours per week for $50....

excited excited, but school how?

Tuesday, August 09, 2005

Well, rag is over. it's amazing how i always find something to squander my holidays on, i love being a student. i don't like working. maybe that's why they pay you, and that's why we pay to be students (i know this is DUH) So this year i've decided to spend my time at RAG. and it's over. and school starts, and i want to do ISM, and it will be suicide. the only things i can remember about rag is the sweating, more sweating, and my injuries. i got hurt everytime i went for rehearsals. first were blue-blacks, then carpet burns on my knees. subsequently, it's more injuries on the same knee, before the previous one had time to heal. then was a big hole in my feet, coz somebody stepped in the middle of my feet during dressed rehearsal. and that means, she was wearing sillettos.

then it was the sweating, i sweat easily, so i sweated all the time i was in the costume and eventually stunk, terribly. was terrible!! and then have to were sillettos, and not only that, we had to dance on tiptoes in sillettos, coz of the field.....my legs were so sore, i only felt slightly sorry to slip off after rag, before helping them pack the chairs and clear the backdrop. and i was so tired, i slept from 2/3pm, all the way to 11 am on sunday. then i woke up, and massaged most parts of my feet and estimated the "damages".

the consolation is the company. lots of nice and interesting people from rag. good, more people for Salsa now...

TODAY we went KTV-ing, they are all good singers...i was easily the worst, but it was very fun although now, i'm very tired, need sleep again.

during rehearsal...

Me and jeremy were walking around in the city....not a very common thing, actually very rare, yah so we decided to walk around millenia walk. THEN, we found this nice waterfall thingy and there was nobody there admiring it, despite it being the weekend...So nice right? especially with that girl in blue standing there.....

Just the waterfalls

then there was this BIG shop what sells very ex and delicious tidbits... they have honey chicken flavoured potato chips and MOST-flavour beans...not every-flavour like that in harry potter. there's popcorn flavour, banana split, peachy pie, coconut, watermelon, the cinnamon and liqourice. the last 2 are for forfeits...it's terrible tasting

closer look

Went to walk at kiddy palace, it's D place for parents and kids. then we found this cute little toy tarzan....

and, it was engaging in some action with another doll too....

front view

and this purple handbag too... it's quite cool there's a metal ring to keep the bag closed, good for people who dun like to close and open their bags too often ie ME

.

they are from Vinci......nice right?

I FOUND SOME WONDERFUL QUOTES FROM SIN CITY!

[while holding a razor to Jackie Boy's face]
Dwight: I'm Shellie's new boyfriend and I'm out of my mind. If you so much as talk to her or even think her name, I'll cut you in ways that'll make you useless to a woman.

Jack Rafferty: You're making a big mistake, man. A *big* mistake.

Dwight: You made a big mistake yourself... you didn't flush.
[Dwight shoves Jackie Boy's head into a toilet filled with urine]

********************

[a grenade lands at his feet]
Dwight: And everything seemed to be going so well.

**********************

Dwight: The valkyrie at my side is shouting and laughing with the pure, hateful, bloodthirsty joy of the slaughter... and so am I
----later on----
Dwight: My warrior woman. My Valkyrie. You'll always be mine, always and never. Never. The Fire, baby. It'll burn us both. It'll kill us both. there's no place in this world for our kind of fire. Always and never. If I have to die for you tonight, I will.

i like this one for the violent streak i have in me

********************

Marv: I had a fight with some cops.
Lucille: Didn't happen to kill any of them, did you?
Marv: Not that I know of, but they know they been in a fight, that's for damn sure.

MArv is the most corny character around, my favourite.

******************************

Marv: Modern cars - they all look like electric shavers.

************************

Cardinal Roark: Will that bring you satisfaction, my son? Killing a helpless, old, fart.
Marv: Killing? No. No satisfaction. Everything up until the killing, will be a gas.

************************

Marv: She smells like angels ought to smell.

So what do angels smell like?

*********************************

Marv: [at his own execution] Would you hurry it up? I haven't got all night.

******************************

John Hartigan: I take out his weapons.
[shoots Junior's hand]
John Hartigan: [pauses] Both of them.
[shoots Junior's groin]

*******************************

Dwight: She doesn't quite chop his head off. She makes a Pez dispenser out of him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dwight: Miho. You're an angel. You're a saint. You're Mother Teresa. You're Elvis. You're God. And if you'd gotten here about ten minutes sooner, we'd still have Jackie-Boy's head.

Miho is the coolest prostitute in the show, japanese with sharp swords and superb marksmanship.

****************************

Dwight: Deadly little Miho. She won't let you feel a thing unless she wants you to. She twists the blade. He feels it.

**************************

Becky: I don't do group jobs.
Jack Rafferty: Come on, get in the car, baby. We'll just talk. It'll be nice.
Becky: I don't do talk jobs either.

*************************

Cop: There's no sign of him!
Marv: Here's a sign!
[hits cop in groin with hatchet]

*************************
this is the funniest part... the whole theatre laughed..

Jack Rafferty: [with the slide of his own gun stuck in his forehead, and a one of Miho's shuriken in his butt, while crawling away on his hands and knees] Don't laugh, it's not funny!

i just returned from watching my first RA show!! SIN CITY.

it's quite good for a first, because i know of people who were unhappy about the first RA show they watched...i like it a lot... although the lines were corny, but there wasn't an overdose of it. and it's funny too, funny in times of very gross scenes, prevents the faint-hearted from getting nightmares. and yet, it's very interesting, the different ways and styles of being murdered. haha, i think most of the characters on the show get killed in a gruesome way rather than the usual shoot and die... somehow, one shot NEVER kills a person. and it's very very difficult to kill either very bad guys or very good guys.

i give the writer of the comic, Frank Miller, a thumbs up for linking the characters and stories together...

FAV character: Miho (the cool jap prostitute with the swords and superb marksmanship)

One thing to note.... all the girls looked terrific!!!very good, considering most of them are prostitutes, wearing a minimal at all times

Me had a fulfilling day yesterday...i actually got to printing out the notes for my usp module: india, and earlier on, cleaned out my whole kitchen.... together with another of my clustermates. all the leftovers for last semester... and who knows, even last year...jeremy was there telling me to dump everything on sight... but i simply could bring myself to do it... it was such a BIG waste! i throw unopened packers of cheese (ok this one might very expired) and bottles of sparkling juice (sparkling juice leh) and spices and unexpired frozen cod fish fillet....so wasted... then again, one wouldn't be at ease eating those stuff...
SO, i threw them all away. had a good time hearing the bags of garbage topple from the 6th floor all the way down to the basement though...hahaha

then i went for Rag practice... can tell you that it's going to be a lot of fun performing and dressing up for it... it's very fun.. haha, cept that lil red patch on my knee which appears again after the earlier one fades away...THEN we tried cartwheels...the kind that the guy have to hold you up for a few seconds, hang in the air with your legs straight and up... and then come down...it's a big big challenge to me coz i've never done gymnastics or ballet before...and not surprisingly, many funny things happened. i was told, that once, i didn't catch enoguh momentum to go up, and it was very funny watching my legs try to wiggle up... and i was held up so long, my face turned red... from embarrassment and also the effect of gravity, pulling blood to my face.

had a long prac, then went for intermediate with another rag dancer who's also very on about salsa... we skipped dinner just to stay on. in the end when i got back to pgp, jeremy pulled me to the gym, without food. but it's good...at least i didn't do any running... and i had a very very good sleep.

For now, i have to read India, finish the preceptorship essay (should have done it long ago) and read Shadow of the giant...it's getting to difficult for me to understand. sigh

Blog
Today is a day worth starting to blog again. 1st reason being I didn't sleep in till late, instead I got up and went to teach tuition. Thinking of how valuably i've invested my sleep in....I feel happy.

I got my handphone cover problem solved too. (i accidentally ripped the top part off the upper side of the hp) Basically, I got a new red/maroon cover...now my handphone looks like new!

And I helped Jeremy solve his hp problem too..and I got an IR adaptor, so now I can continue taking snap shots and photoblog them!

Best part, i'm making good use of all my electronics: my Ipod shuffle to keep me entertained on the way to woodlands, my pocket pc to blog whenever I like. . . . this is the life man!!

since i was commenting/complaining to my friend about this, i might as well record it on my blog as well. for the records.

last week or some time "long ago" i went for a vendor training session conducted by guardian for activa and wenken. FYI, activa carries things like cellulite max and activawhite, "the extra effective whitening cream, which promises to lighten your skin by one tone after the first use, and effects last up to one week!" and Wenken has products like Glucoscare tea (which blocks your glucose intake and sensory receptors of glucose) and tongkat ali PLUS. be sure not to mistake this with the $60 beikin tongkat ali PURE extract which my outlet has been running out of stock of.

anyway, back to what i was saying, the activa reps were somewhat convincing, they managed to prove their claims to us, though some of us still have suspicions about it.

Sidetrack: activawhite contains titanium dioxide. this might aid in the whitening illusion, as it's white, any residue left on the skin contributes to the whitening experience. furthermore, not many people use scrubs on their hands. while a minority of us might use scrubs twice a week on our face, to "renew our skin", we don't really do that for our hands right? so i think, the effects would be less obvious if the whitening cream was used on the face. whitening by exfoliation that is...like who will apply the cream to half your face and compare before and after...even if you think it doesn't work, you won't risk your face for that.

back to what i was saying again, just when i was thinking the vendor training session wasn't all promo/publicity and fluff, the tongkat ali reps, of sorry, i mean wenken reps, came in and proved what we believed earlier true.

----excerpt----
i was freaking irritated at the tongkat ali reps. i asked about why their tongkat ali PLUS is so effective, they say, it's coz the contains TCM which strengthens your kidneys. then why does strengthening one's kidneys help testosterone production/rid fatigue...(speculating some theory on yin and yang balance coupled with five elements) he said, no no no, it's not that. but later when he showed me the product write-up, it was exactly what he denied.

not to mention claims like "no known contraindictions with western medicines" which one might interpret as: so studies have been done but no contraindications have been found. however, in actual fact it's: we never did any clinical trials, we just believe so. and their statistics has a sample size of 35.... that doesn't even allow central limit theorem to take effect.

hello world!

will not be blogging throughout my holidays, the place i'm staying does not have an internet connection, i'll only be reachable by handphone. and also at Guardian Causeway point.

yesterday, like any other day, me and my sisters drove to Jusco (the shopping centre near my house) to shop for groceries, to cook dinner... as we appraoched, we noticed that the perimeter of the carpark has been lined with cars... and even so, on the other side of the road.... same applied to all four sides of the compound... i was like OMG, who died... the sultan's funeral wouldn't even render sucha BIG response. as it turns out, 12 may is Hair Ahli Jusco...so there were discounts on household stuff, and we heard people shouting buy one free one, 70% discounts were the norm, every $100 spent gave you a $10 voucher...

i spent 15 mins coasting the car park, i was very sure it was full, but decided to join the corwd nonetheless. first we saw a very satisfied shopper (judging from the half-filled boot and 2 more trolleys of toliet paper and comforters and groceries) and, driven by desperation, i pushed my sister down to do stand in the parking lot to choop place. but when my sister ran there... we sighted the orange blinking lights of another car... signalling to us, "hey, i saw it first" or "Car is bigger than Man". So, my sister returned.. a few lanes down, the same thing happened until finally, FINALLY, a few housewives strolled across us. and something in my (smart) subconsciousness told me not to advance forward... and sure enough, their car lay at a very favourable spot for me to zoom in, and the car in front just didn't see it fast enough. so, i flicked my right signal light... and stopped in the middle of the car park. (prior to this, one must understand that all cars were just coasting along the lanes of the car park... very slowly, as everyone wanted to find aparking lot) so, what i mean to say is that, my car posted a traffic obstruction in the middle of a hot thursday afternoon in a packed shopping centre car park.

never did i feel so important, or had i possess such relevance, such to cause a traffic jam. HAHA.

needless to say, my sisters and i were spent after reaching home. but dilligent and fillial lil grace still went about preparing dinner for the family.

Dinner menu:
steamed egg
honey glazed chicken fillet
mixed vegetables in oyster sauce

well, after the long absence from blogging, here i am again...but now at home. been trying to catch up on all the fun i've missed while mugging... but it seems that nothing can make up for yesteryear's fun.

i brought my fellow pharmacy babes to my place... and had quite a blast of a time.... think "one of the best" duck rice, OOTB fried chicken OOTB wantan mee, plus seaside walks in the moonlight, thrilling roller coaster rides, full tank car, FOS clothes and OOTB company!!!!Oh oh... and mango plucking... on my roof...hahaha, anyone wants to see pictures please approach Cherie!or me.

ok, must look forward...i look forward to matriculation when i can buy a new laptop. basically my wishlist for my new laptop will be

3)DVD-rw drive
4)Light, portable and aesthetically pleasing
5)below $2000

and i have to plan for my ISM (independent study module)... really soon, year 3 already...old old

for the next one week...i should be reading... books like hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, da vinci code and no exit... hopefully can finish all.

while doing preceptorship...i must read up on pharm prac and make lots and lots of earrings.

today while checking out, the woman behind the counter said: Ooh, i like your earrings...(really? i made them myself) really? oh, we need more creative people like you around, you could really make some money with those (yah, i am... i'm selling earrings) Ooh, great...a little extra pocket money will be useful...here, you can go now, take care, and all the best in selling your earrings...

such a sweet woman, who would have tot that sweet and kind people existed in the pgp admin, or in admin for that matter...

i guess earrings acrosses all barriers...HAHAHA

Bicep guy CONFIRMED gay

made a big discovery last night, was studying in study room with 2 other people. at 1 pm, it was late and one guy decided to retire, other guy asks him to wait for him, coz "gay guy" was watching tv in the tv room and might bump into him. [previously, gay guy winked to my friend on the bus, and smiled at him on many occasions.]on further description, i realised that "gay guy" totally fitted that of bicep guy. and we confirmed it.

thus bicep guy shall officially be renamed Bicep gay.

Faced with such a sadist and cunning lecturer, Grace has decided to spot questions:

format of paper:

40 MCQ
5 Definitions
2 out of 3 long questions

of which long questions take 1 hour. Since lecturer is cunning, there's no use in trying to spot mcq questions coz everything will come out of STC, which nobody remembers or have time to study.

5 definitions, got it covered.

long questions (probable topics):
1) types of disinfectant, which to use or which situation OR compare and contrast tests for disinfectant ability
2) Significance of microorganisms in pharmacy
3) Fungi reproduction
4) Counting methods for microorganisms (most content... pao ga liao, must be her favourite)

Today is a day to rejoice.

1) PHAMACO is over...... i'll be glad to say i can throw all the info out of my head, but i don't want to do it, because, logically, i'll need it later. and it's important information too, for my profession.

2) I reunited with a piece of metal, welded into a circle that has letters " Y E R M J E " on it.

Things to blog about 2 days to exam

1) i think someone is stuck in the lift, and pressing the alarm in vain.

2) the 10 pm shuttle buses are full to the brim from muggers flowing out from libraries. i was caught in the wave, i got up the bus, last stop for the journey, stood at the stairs, i looked up and see the waist of the guy next to me.

3) i know that i've been studying my pharm prac when: i know alka setlzer is an anti-hangover drug and orlistat causes one to slim down, together with flatulence and fatty stools.

4)"pharmaceutical care is a prescription of what pharmacist should be doing" is it a pun or a typo?

5) sucking on hard candy will increase salivation, and thus increase the amount of air swallowed. so lollipops keep you from bingeing because they cause bloating.

- - - added- - - - -
drug which gives orgasms when you yawn

-----------added added---------------------
my bf showed me this biochem lecture at berkeley, i enjoyed the lecture very much, much much more than LSM 2101, although it's exactly the same syllabus. anyway, the reason why he wanted to show me the lecture was for another reason to why i paid attention to the lecture. the lecturer added trivia at the end of the lecture, which was very interesting. one on caffeine... and one on viagra.

caffeine is an inhibitor of phosphodiesterase. phosphodiesterase hydrolyses cAMP so it's no longer a 2nd messenger. and so, with less hydrolysis of cAMP, we get longer and more intense effects of whatever cAMP actives. thus, the effects of caffeine.

one of the effects of cAMP is that of lowering blood pressure. so, scientist found this drug, viagra, which is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor too. so they administered viagra to everybody at a nursing home. after awhile, the new drug didn't manage to lower blood pressure so they stopped giving the folks viagra. but a riot broke out, against the termination of the clinical study. and it was found that this new drug has other properties.

thus, this led to the discovery of phosphodisesterase selectivity. cause, viagra is an inhibitor for the phosphodiesterase which hydrolyses cGMP. and cGMP is responsible for "increased attention" and blurred/blue vision caused by viagra.

More episodes of Bicep guy

today me and chuliet went down to tv room to watch Desperate Housewives. and guess what, bicep guy was already in the tv room. before DH started, there was parliment, then i was telling chuliet about the diff types of receding hairline... there was dragon lee, and then there was some guy who had a more advanced case than lee. when the next minister came on, bicep guy slapped his thigh and laughed out loud... me and chuliet were like *blink blink*..........

then another guy came in, munching on green peas with a lunch box full of more peas and tomatoes...

bicep guy: wah, healthy eating
green peas guy: you want? *rummages in plastic bag, plucked out a packet of oreos* you want?
bicep guy: ohh... i just had that just now....*starts munching on his packet of raisins*
green peas guy: you had dinner already? if not you can have this....
bicep guy: yah, i ate already...
green peas guy: really, really, are you sure you ate already?
bicep guy: yah yah....
green peas guy and bicep guy continue to talk over me and chu
chu and me: *blinks more*
i had a conversation with my bf yesterday, on the topic of suicide. then something i said made him very interested to meet my ex. so i figured, maybe it;s time to schedule a meeting and what better way to do it than to leave a msg on his blog, since it's awkward to msg him and say, Hi, my bf wants to meet you...

however, to my dismay, his blog closed down and in a very interesting manner...it showed a screen shot of some game...with his avatar caught in a fix, and dying there. and there's no link what-so-ever out of the blog. and the same thing goes for his best friend's blog. well too bad. and it's sad.

moving on, lately, i've been chatting with this ex-schoolmate very often recently, considering perivously, we nearly nvr talked online. and, well i'm still impressed with him, the same as in jc. and i find talking to him exciting. coz here comes someone you know, but you're not sure whether the person has changed, and it's a second chance to correct/change the impression he has of you. after quite a bit of accurate psycho-analysing, it came down to whether i could "show" my blog to him. coz afterall, a blog... is like a diary but it's public... but it's still private... so, after a bit of denying him access (this coz some hurt, coz unwittingly, i said my blog is only for friends, without clarifying myself further/earlier that i valued his opinion alot) he decided not to try to search for it coz i don't want him to read.

that decision really made me respect him. coz my blog, is so easy to find. and even after i stated the link, he didn't use it for fear it might affect the way i write my blog entries. well, i promised that it wouldn't change the way i blog, if he read it. to say i won't is a lie. but, not blogging about this, is breaking my promise too.

so this is for him. -cheers to your honesty-

ps: you won't find an entry dedicated to you anymore.. so your ego had better cherish it. =P

TOOK a Keirsey test

Free report for: grace

Guardians, are the cornerstone of society, for they are the temperament given to serving and preserving our most important social institutions. Guardians have natural talent in managing goods and services--from supervision to maintenance and supply--and they use all their skills to keep things running smoothly in their families, communities, schools, churches, hospitals, and businesses.

Guardians can have a lot of fun with their friends, but they are quite serious about their duties and responsibilities. Guardians take pride in being dependable and trustworthy; if there's a job to be done, they can be counted on to put their shoulder to the wheel. Guardians also believe in law and order, and sometimes worry that respect for authority, even a fundamental sense of right and wrong, is being lost. Perhaps this is why Guardians honor customs and traditions so strongly--they are familiar patterns that help bring stability to our modern, fast-paced world.

Practical and down-to-earth, Guardians believe in following the rules and cooperating with others. They are not very comfortable winging it or blazing new trails; working steadily within the system is the Guardian way, for in the long run loyalty, discipline, and teamwork get the job done right. Guardians are meticulous about schedules and have a sharp eye for proper procedures. They are cautious about change, even though they know that change can be healthy for an institution. Better to go slowly, they say, and look before you leap.

Guardians make up as much as 40 to 45 percent of the population.

sigh, been wanting to blog but have been either procrastinating or disciplining myself. the beginning of the week was havoc.... test, presentation, test... coupled from last week's presentation, report due, test, test..... it's.... it's...........well all i can said is phew!

now i'm given everyday to sleep as long as i want...but my ultimate goal is to not gain too much weight from my exam food supply and try not to spend too much (end of sem, i spent almost all of my scholarship money already)

*recalls what i wanted to blog about*.....too many brain cells fried during test preparation, the rest of the brain cells occupied for storing information until exam....but even then, cannot delete all info....coz apparently, in year 4 there's this big oral test where they put you alone in the room with your tester and you are faced with some problem, then you have to use all your knowledge, from every year(physio, anat, drug principles, pharmacology, law, pharm practice) to answer it. DIE DIE DIE. the new dept head has assured us that no life sci or chem engin student can upsurp our throne in the employment market. because of our syllabus and our quality of student (top 3-4% supposedly).

but, according to statistical information, if you take the top 4% of a normal distribution, you can't simply use this sample of the population, throw them back into the funnel (words of wisedom from quek) and try and fit these students into a normal distribution again (cap calculation). you will get screwed up results, low student self-esteem and discrimination against the "weaker" students. that, is where i suposedly am.

enough about cap. try as much as i can to say it doesn't matter, but if its the only indicator of excellance, i'll gnaw at it. coz i'm a very competitive person.

was going to cramp for pharmacology yesterday night. so i figured, i shall go to the study room to study, as much as i hate the stifling air there.

when i got there, first, no chair. oK, there were chairs, but the chairs were either occupied or broken. then when i made do with a backless seat, i saw pubic hair on it. as if it's not enough, a bicep-guy (bicep only coz he has scrawny legs but... developed arms and chest) came in and pointed at the chair opposite me with a bend at his wrist (you know the gayish way) "shall i sit here?" then changed his mind and sat in another chair.

today he's here again. asked to sit in the seat opposite me again, then shifted way again. is he gay?

Friday, April 08, 2005

today i climbed gates. and damaged my shorts, and punctured my palm.

honestly don't see the reason in being together when that couple quarrels every other day.

now i'm supposed to be nice to everybody. you've got such an ugly character, you always pick on the flaws of others while you don't see yours. even if you don't look good, there might be something worth loving in your character. but if you already have such an ugly heart, there's really no point in trying to beautify yourself.

love the way you are. but it really kills others if you don't make an effort to shape up. actually what really kills is that all the effort that went to eating less, avoiding snacks and exercising, all goes to waste. now all you see is just a blob...you'll never believe that the former actually happened. and you remind the victim of its self consciousness at every opportunity. even if you don't mention, the mere glance you give, convicts.

hate being told what to do, worse if it's good advice. coz you cannot take it. you know its good advice and you should just apologise and accept. but it just doesn't work that way. you want so bad to rebel against that instruction and not follow it. next thing you know, you got a partner who's telling you what to do and what not to do. the exact reason why you ditched the last one.

what to do, they are just so concerned about you, they want you to turn out well.

why can't we be evil, mean and superficial.

Sunday, April 03, 2005

one of my group members has proven himself to be a true gentleman. (i really wonder how his parents taught him to be so, i want to know...) while walking towards a door, i was walking in front. as we approached, i hastened to open the door for both of us. BUT

he ran (so that he'll reach the door faster than i did) in front of me, so that he was the one who held the door open for both of us. what is the moral of the story?

"A man should never let a woman open the door for herself."

(prior to this, after a separate group meeting, we offered to carry my laptop for me. that not only lessens my load, but also frees my hands of anything. and he waited with me for the shuttle bus, eventhough he can just walk back to his hall.)
what do we learn from this?

manners transcends culture and race, if you ain't got it, you just ain't.....well, you just don't have manners.
was just looking at my "Kinsey" postcard today....( i see it everyday lah, but today,) i was thinking, people call sex-crazed humans "animals" but the logic involved is wrong!

in the animal kingdom, only dolphins and humans have sex for fun while the rest of the animals just have sex in order to produce offspring.

from this background info, shouldn't a human who is accused as "animal" be a little less or much less sexually active than a follow human being? and a sex-crazed human, is just a normal HUMAN.... unless one prefers to call him/her a dolphin...
