today is a bad day, i got up late...my handphone battery is flat, and i didn't get enough sleep.. so i'm in a bad mood. now, i cannot sleep, have to practise further for a humiliating performance...i want to try to do better, but...
i want to cry..... are looks everything? just because she is stick thin, and has rebonded hair, she must stand in the center? i'm afraid my dance moves are not even enough to put my on par with her...i think i should just retire from some stupid fantasy of being a dancer and be the auntie that dispenses drug...
i mean, what's the point, i trained and pushed myself so hard in december for the competition just to attain a level 2 salsa cert, i thought it was very impressive, considering i only bargained for a lvel 1.... then here comes people who i don't even think can pass my basic class standard...getting a level 2 cert too??? i must go back today and throw away my certs

you're ok... you're still worrying like crazy... relax.
Hey Babe, I cant bring myself to say tt the world is unfair, BUT, don't we all understand tt "there's always a mountain higher than another"?
Dance is subjective, as with any other art form. And with salsa, more important than looking good is feeling great when u are dancing. We always have someone up there which we would like to be, we take tt someone as a benchmark, a model, a competitor, a motivator. many times, its not possible to attain, but in the striving process, u improve immensely and find yourself. i always believe tt we should not strive to be someone else, but find our unique self. we don't want to be a photocopy huh.
I totally understand how u feel playing corp de ballet (the chorus) to a principle dancer. cos i have been there. many times. but keep working at honing YOUR own talent, find your style, and one day u'll be recognised for ur signature character rather than "oh, she moves like so-and-so"
all these certs, do they really mean everything? they do ascertain some form of recognition, but do your own judgement. we're talking relative terms. who do u want to be relative to? go back to basics, the best driving force is yourself. compete against ur old self, that's where the value is. u use others as reference.
aiyoh, i sound like a nag. but trust me, i've cried many times thinking n feeling im inadequate, but i get disappointed cos i know im not getting what im capable of doing. and being lazy cos i know its all abt practising.
you're doing good at the moment, keep believing in yourself k. and dance happy. dance happy n open and you'll dance well!
thanks, i'm better now after talking to Nigel about it. he also mentioned that the most impt thing is about having fun...not trying to be perfect or the best...
i have no problems against having you as the principal dancer...never..=)
don't worry dear.. you can always look at me dance to make you feel better.. =p love ya.
erm...
(this is private) but, i dun think im the "slim with rebonded hair" dancer u mentioned in your post. heh.
